In the ever-evolving world of professional wrestling, storytelling is just as crucial as in-ring performance—if not more so. As WWE marches toward WrestleMania 41, the stakes are high not just for the matches, but for the narratives meant to elevate stars and captivate fans. Yet in the case of Charlotte Flair versus WWE Women’s Champion Tiffany Stratton, what should have been a compelling generational clash has instead highlighted the growing disconnect between WWE’s creative vision and audience expectations. The following editorial explores how this feud has faltered, what it reveals about WWE’s current trajectory, and why it may represent a cautionary tale for how rising talent is developed—and sometimes mishandled—on wrestling’s biggest stage.

The Queen vs. the Face, Heel, Hottest Thing, Rookie, Underdog Champion

As WrestleMania 41 rapidly approaches on April 19-20, 2025, at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, WWE faces backlash over the problematic feud between Charlotte Flair and Tiffany Stratton for the WWE Women’s Championship. The rivalry, which prematurely thrust a veteran performer against a promising but inexperienced champion, has deteriorated into disorganized storytelling. WWE’s questionable decision-making has left Stratton vulnerable, highlighting her shortcomings rather than elevating her as a credible star. Without significant corrections, this matchup risks negatively impacting Stratton’s career trajectory and diminishing Flair’s reputation, underscoring deeper issues within WWE’s creative process.

The feud began through interviews where Tiffany admitted Charlotte inspired her to wrestle. Charlotte Flair, a 14-time women’s champion and the 2025 Women’s Royal Rumble winner, returned triumphantly from a year-long injury hiatus (torn ACL, MCL, and meniscus suffered in December 2023). Her victory earned her the right to challenge for any women’s title. After considering other competitors—including Rhea Ripley and Giulia—she set her sights on Tiffany Stratton, the reigning WWE Women’s Champion. Stratton had prematurely ascended to the top by cashing in her Money in the Bank contract on Nia Jax on January 3, 2025, establishing herself ambiguously between a face and a heel—this ambiguity being the first of many missteps. While Tiffany excels as a heel, Charlotte Flair is naturally suited to that role, making Tiffany’s attempts at heel promos against Flair a complete misstep.

This matchup made little sense from the outset: Flair, the seasoned veteran with a storied legacy, versus Stratton, a cocky newcomer with only one title reign from a cash-in and no notable accomplishments to support her status. Flair’s experience and in-ring skill paired against Stratton’s flashy but inconsistent ring work created an unbalanced booking. WWE’s recent tendency to rely more on fan suggestions and recycled storylines has contributed to a feud widely regarded as a masterclass in missed opportunities, failing both to elevate Stratton and respect Flair’s legacy.

The feud’s failures are most evident in its promo segments. Flair consistently showcased her veteran savvy, leaving Stratton flailing. Problems began during a split-screen interview on the March 21, 2025, episode of SmackDown. Flair dominated, dismissing Stratton as an undeserving champion who only won via cash-in, labeling her a “pity pick” for WrestleMania. Stratton’s attempts to counter, accusing Flair of suppressing new talent, felt rehearsed and lacked impact. Tiffany’s inauthentic, repetitive delivery ultimately buried her in a critical moment.

This dynamic escalated on the April 4, 2025, episode of SmackDown in Chicago, where their face-to-face confrontation intended as a heated prelude to WrestleMania devolved into an off-script disaster. Flair struggled with the hostile, largely artificial crowd reaction, while Stratton’s improvisation emphasized her inexperience. Stratton inappropriately pivoted to personal attacks, referencing Flair’s real name (Ashley Fliehr), her father Ric Flair, and failed marriages. Flair, blindsided, retaliated by mentioning Stratton’s real-life boyfriend. WWE later edited out these controversial elements, implicitly acknowledging the segment’s failure. Attempting to elevate an unprepared Stratton at Flair’s expense reveals WWE’s misjudgment about her readiness for the spotlight.

WWE Hall of Famer Bully Ray summarized the dynamic on “Busted Open Radio,” warning that Stratton would be exposed if Flair dragged her into deep waters. Social media echoed this critique, labeling the feud “dreadful fiction” in storytelling terms, and noting how damaging it was for Stratton’s credibility.

The physical aspect of the feud was similarly lackluster. Highlights included Flair ambushing Stratton post-match with a Figure Eight on March 7 and a brief pull-apart brawl on March 15 in Barcelona. Although these moments briefly ignited audience interest, inconsistent momentum persisted. Stratton’s dive from the entrance ramp two weeks before WrestleMania was notable, but her routine missed targets on high-risk moves further disappointed fans.

The booking failed to generate sympathy for Stratton or genuine heat for Flair. Flair’s dominance unintentionally portrayed her as an overpowering antagonist and bully, while Stratton appeared outmatched rather than cunning. The feud’s personal jabs felt more like reality TV than wrestling storytelling, reflecting WWE’s trend towards controversy over substance.

This feud represented a crucial opportunity for Stratton to establish herself as a main-event star. Instead, it risked derailing her momentum. At 25, Stratton’s potential was evident in her title win, but facing her idol at WrestleMania has clearly overwhelmed her, revealing her inexperience. Flair, 39, thrives at WrestleMania, and her insistence on not “being less than” has further exposed Stratton’s deficiencies. Stratton’s lackluster matches and shaky confidence have painted her as a performer still developing her on-screen presence, undermining her short reign.

The storyline also failed to enhance Flair’s legacy. Her return should have been triumphant, but the feud’s one-sided nature cast her as a gatekeeper stifling new talent—something Stratton herself noted. WWE’s unclear booking confused fans about Stratton’s role as a heel, face, victim, or bully. This ambiguity harmed audience engagement and further confused the narrative. WWE could have leveraged Flair’s experience to elevate Stratton instead of exposing her limitations.

Ultimately, WWE’s reluctance to adapt creatively has exacerbated these issues. Flair’s polished skills starkly contrasted Stratton’s lack of experience, and the creative team failed to provide sufficient support or depth. Stratton needs substantial improvement across the board, while Flair requires fresh character development beyond repetitive title feuds. The decision to let Tiffany improvise in Chicago was a failed gamble, making the feud uncomfortably personal.

With WrestleMania 41 approaching rapidly, there is little time to salvage this storyline. Although the match itself could deliver in-ring, the poorly executed build-up has been a disservice to both competitors. Unless WWE corrects course, this feud risks becoming a notorious example of desperate booking, negatively reflecting on WWE and its new TKO Group partnership.

In an interview with soap star Krista Allen from CBS’ The Bold and The Beautiful, TV Source got the chance to shoot the breeze with this talented actress and talk about life, career paths, what she’s been doing over the past few years, and for all of soap fans, how she landed her most recent role as resident psychiatrist, Dr. Taylor Hayes. From soaps to primetime shows and movies, Krista Allen has been making us fall in love with her characters, making us love to hate them at times, and of course, making us laugh.

With her very first acting role being on The Bold and the Beautiful in 1995 as Shelly, one could say Krista Allen has come full circle from where she started. She’s come a long way from the role of Shelly. a role that was originally a recurring part that ended, well, we’ll let her tell you.

“I got my first ever audition for Bold and the Beautiful about a few months into being in Los Angeles—It was the day after I met a manager who told me to come back after I had decided if I was staying in LA. He called me with an audition, so I went in and read. I somehow booked the dang job and was feeling all sassy and cool. And when I got to set, I just kept staring directly into the camera, unable to deliver my lines. They let me go after two episodes,” she laughed before continuing, “And, that was my first job!” Shelly may not have worked out, but Dr. Hayes is here to stay, and Krista brings forth fresh new energy, energizing the beloved Taylor and Ridge family unit.

While The Bold and the Beautiful may have been her first job, it certainly wasn’t her last. Allen landed another gig soon after on NBC’s Days of Our Lives from 1996-1999 as Billie Reed, as well as many of the most iconic TV shows of our time and memorable blockbuster movies. (Liar, Liar (Jim Carrey) anyone?) There are many contrasts in the different genres of projects. As a person who has had tons of experience with movies and TV, Krista gave a glimpse into set life on soaps and what she feels the most significant difference is from other jobs she’s done. “We don’t know the end of the story. We learn the show’s arc with incoming scripts just like you all watch the air shows. We don’t have much forewarning about what’s coming up for our characters. I study my lines for my episodes the night before I go in. I think that’s the biggest difference between soaps and other projects. With soaps, there is no beginning, middle, and end that is all wrapped up nicely in a story bible. We are just as surprised as you guys.”

We asked her what goes into making an actor feel like they’re genuinely in character? Everyone has that certain thing that gives that sense of completeness, right? “One of the biggest things for me for the character is make up, hair, and wardrobe. When those things are not in play, it throws me off.”

Assuming the role of Doctor Taylor Hayes, we can agree that Krista dresses and physically looks the part. But there is that wig issue—The one debacle that sparks many conversations, besides her excellent adaptation of Taylor’s demeanor, are the wigs the show chose for her to wear during her first few months. While it is a bit distracting (for her and us), her charismatic embodiment of the character more than makes up for the wig. And to our extreme delight, we were able to find out that the wig would soon be a thing of the past. Hair today, gone tomorrow.

Diving into the non-responsive parts of acting, we discussed how Krista excels in capitalizing on flipping the switch between doctor and mother as Taylor Hayes. “I listen to what is being said and have an internal dialogue about what Taylor believes is happening in the scene. Everything is from her perspective, and the history that brought her to the current moment.”

The audience has raved about how Taylor is more in control of her emotions and has the assured stability she had in the early 2000s and early ’90s. One scene stood out where you could visibly see the shift in Taylor was when she was speaking to her son-in-law, Finn, played by Tanner Novlan. Our Doc offered him a sympathetic ear and analyzed how he felt about Sheila, his biological mother (played Kimberlin Brown.) For me, as a long-time fan of the show, it was interesting to watch.

With any job, there can be criticism, and actors are no strangers to online comments. While Krista is new to the role of Taylor Hayes, she has been such a fun presence on social media and truly enjoys interacting with The Bold and the Beautiful fandom. “Social Media is a great place to connect with others, and I’ve found some incredible humans in my feed. Because I’m looking for the best in people and we find each other. That’s how I found you! Anyone who knows me knows that I find the human condition fascinating! Because of this, my sense of humor can seem controversial to some.”

What about people confusing reel and real? “People get attached to their own very personal connection to the characters, good or bad—and it’s as easy to love a character as it is to judge one. It’s all about perspective.  It can be easy for some to blur the lines when those personal emotions come into play, making it easy to forget that the characters aren’t actually real people.” While others could be easily offended by rude comments, Krista has a healthy way of dealing with criticism. Even as she spoke, we laughed a lot, and I even shared some of my social media showdowns while she playfully analyzed me, making me feel like I was in my own psychiatrist’s chair. But like, a fun one.

In an exciting twist, we got to discuss what Krista has been doing. It also explained her ability to pinpoint some mysteries in my own life! She admitted she hadn’t been acting much in the past four years because she has been in school. As a matter of fact, she was already working with clients when Bold called her to join the cast. “My love of the human brain and how it operates led me to become certified as a trauma specialist in Complex PTSD and an addiction and recovery counselor, and an Epigenetic coach with a special focus on neurotransmitters in brain activity and DNA expression. When this role came up to play a shrink, I was thrilled. I’ve always wanted to say I’m not a doctor, but I play one on TV.” While she was obviously kidding, and all the credentials are a mouthful to say, it does feel like the role of psychiatrist was a perfect fit for her reemergence on daytime television.

There are so many things to love about the character of Taylor Hayes, but what about the shortcomings and character flaws? Digging into Krista’s understanding of the character, she had this to say. “I love the character, and I don’t think I hate anything about her. She has character flaws, much like we all do, and she’s vulnerable. Who would like a character who’s always perfect? That’s simply not human!  Taylor must mess up at some point, and I think that’s the fun part. I bet she’s going to unravel at some point. The Saints fall the hardest.”

We asked about the emotional responses to Taylor as a character and how Krista feels to evoke such strong reactions from fans. She did admit she enjoys all the responses. “People are very invested in the character, so I understand when there is anger, but I believe that no character can always be portrayed as great. The character of Taylor is like the millionaire matchmaker.” Krista joked. “She has great advice for everyone else but can’t look at her own codependent behavior. She’s so stuck on Ridge, but the real question is, ‘Is it really about him?’ Sometimes we have to step back and look at the bigger picture. I think she wants to love and be loved back. Something everyone in the world wants in life.”

As much as Krista loves the character of Taylor, she did admit she plays up her nonverbal cues when it comes to adapting to the dialogue. “I try to give her a little sass. The fun of it is looking at it from a place of not knowing what’s going to happen but picking up on the dialogue and looking into the foreshadowing in the script. I might have some idea, but I never have the full story. That’s exciting. It’s like me and Taylor are in a new relationship, and I’m trying to find a way to understand her emotions as best I can.”

As far as her costars, we asked who was her favorite and what makes for a great scene partner, and Krista had much praise for her castmates. “I don’t have one person I love more than anyone else. Everyone here is freaking amazing. Thorsten [Kaye] is incredible. Truly a wonderful actor.  Jacqui [MacInnes Wood] is brilliant and inspiring—Matt [Atkinson] is fantastic—he’s so good. Katherine [Kelly Lang] is so giving as an actress, and I get excited each time we have scenes together, and Kimberlin [Brown] is so much freaking fun to work with. It is hard to keep a straight face when we work together. I could go on and on.” Gushing about her co-stars, she did reveal how much she loves how well they all know their characters. “I feel like I’m relearning soap acting all over again. It has helped me so much that they are so seasoned, and from day one, they have welcomed me and made me feel completely comfortable and loved.”

When it comes to favorite things, Krista’s list was pretty short. She doesn’t have a favorite color or role. Teasingly, she poked fun at herself. “I chalk it up to commitment issues!” The only favorite thing she has is a favorite person, her son. While she would not admit to any other favorites, I was able to pull out a favorite something of my own about her. Her capacity for understanding and compassion is enduring. “I just believe in staying in your own lane and not trying to tell anyone how to think and feel. I would never presume to tell anyone what they should or shouldn’t like, feel, or think. I believe that everyone has their own way of being that works (or doesn’t) for them. But it’s not my place to change anyone to make myself feel better.” While she tends to ‘stay in her lane,’ we were able to agree that soaps provide an escape from reality for all of us. “It’s the place where an alternate reality can outlandish as you want.”

As we rambled a bit and discussed various topics, one being Krista’s fascination for the human brain and behaviors, being a bit of a philosopher, Krista teased that she rarely gives short answers to any question. “See, I told you I go so deep with my answers. I’m that person that you ask how my day was, and I tell you how I started in the womb and how it’s going now. I’ve been that way my entire life.”

While Krista may not be the first person to play the role of the good doctor originally, she certainly has brought new life to the show that was needed and sorely missed. Krista, the person behind the characters, leaves an infectious light and joy wherever she goes, and it is no surprise that her natural exuberance shines through in her projects. Also, the woman never ages. While she may not be able to pinpoint why she started acting, other than luck, I can personally say we are fortunate that she has shared herself and her talents with the many audiences she’s graced.

The Bold and the Beautiful airs weekdays on CBS. Episodes are available for streaming on Paramount Plus.

From the moment her theme song hit at WWE’s TLC 2020, signaling her triumphant return after a six-month absence until now, Charlotte Flair has been on another level. With her name constantly being brought up, good or bad, Charlotte Flair has been a part of the conversation the entire year of 2021. Through amazing matches, some of the best promos of her career, and a physique like we’ve never seen, Charlotte took 2021 by storm. Dubbing herself The Opportunity, The Star Maker, and my personal favorite, Queen—No matter what you call her, in 2021, the one thing you can’t call her is insignificant. Having two matches on WWE’s Top Ten Matches of The Year list, even after missing WrestleMania 37, is just the tip of the iceberg for the work Charlotte produced this year. In this exclusive candid interview, TV Source was able to catch up with the thirteen-time Women’s World champion to discuss her whirlwind year.

Extremely radiant and inexplicably energetic, given her schedule, we poked fun at how resilient Charlotte is. Speaking to her from her car while she drove to her next show in Baltimore, Maryland, I teased that I thought my schedule was busy, but hers is unlike anything I’ve ever seen. She provided a detailed account when asked what a typical day looks like. “Usually it’s fly out Thursday, show on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, Fly home on Monday.” We were amazed as she further elaborated. “I’m usually exhausted, but it’s my free day. I tend to enjoy my cheat snacks like Ben and Jerry’s ice cream and sushi with my fiancé, sort of like a date night, while on Tuesday, I try to get stuff done. Also, on Wednesdays, I try to get stuff done, whether it’s media, photoshoots, press over the phone, or just trying to hang out with friends or to try to do everyday life. When Thursday rolls around, and I wake up, workout, pack my bags and fly out.”

Despite her busy schedule, Charlotte loves the feel of being in the arena with fans. She admitted that it’s so different from the atmosphere online. “I’m the person that makes the crowd want to cheer for the other person to win. I love that. I love the energy.” Sometimes, when wrestlers are on social media, the negativity can be consuming, but the events allow them to feel all the fans’ love, respect, and support. It helps to distract from the toxic environment, so many of us read on social media. Social media is not always indicative of genuine reactions when it comes to the fans’ reception to her. She’s always been a talent that transcends what the media has to say. As a person who frequently attends WWE events, there has never been a crowd that didn’t show a lot of appreciation for her performances. I quickly pointed out that there has been a shift in the live crowds lately – no matter how mean or vindictive she is, people find this overwhelming need to cheer for her; the crowds have been split, but she’s the bad guy they love to root for.

Beginning her return, this character shift was different from how she’d left. There were mixed reactions to face Charlotte versus Evil Queen, but during that time, she secured her rightful place as Grand slam Champion and won her first tag team title with longtime rival Asuka. The reign was short-lived, and the alliance, and another questionable feud emerged with Lacey Evans and, surprisingly, Charlotte’s father. Earning a chuckle, I informed Charlotte that this would be the only time we mentioned her father, sixteen-time World Champion, and Hall of Famer, Ric Flair, in the interview. We adore him, but this is the queen’s time. But to round out the feud with her father and Lacey, Charlotte delivered the first of many promos that made even some of her skeptics admit that she was doing fantastic work. When asked how she felt about the negative versus the positive, she wasn’t shy. “I feel like it’s the cool thing not to like me. Whether good or bad, it’s always a positive to be in the conversation.”

As one of the top stars in WWE, it is no surprise that Charlotte is the topic of discussion among sites that cover sports and backstage gossip, also known as the Dirt Sheets. She has frequently been the subject of articles that attack her personally and professionally. “I laugh at a lot of them. There are reports of me being backstage for events that I’ve never gone to, there are so-called sources that exist for these articles, but they never called me. I ignore most of these things because I don’t believe in giving them life. Silence is the best way to deal with them.”

Comments about her physical appearance were a huge hot button subject on social media and in several articles.  Waving it off, the champ didn’t dwell on the negative attention. “I try to rise above it.” Charlotte came back in the best physical shape she’s ever been, and judging from her social media posts, fitness is a serious priority. She eats healthier and trains constantly. Her routine has more than likely been a huge factor in her success and one of the reasons she rarely has injuries.

After missing WrestleMania 37 (consider it WWE’s version of the SuperBowl), upon her return the night after, the audience was introduced to a different kind of Charlotte. Her look was edgier, her robes were villainous, and her promos cut much deeper. They were a reflection of the queen digging her heels in and deciding to never apologize for who she was and what she’d accomplished. It was evident that something shifted character-wise. “I just wanted to come back unapologetic. I just couldn’t keep apologizing for what I’ve accomplished. If someone else was in my spot, they wouldn’t apologize for being there. I realized I’m damned if I do [and] damned if I don’t. I just had to own it. I will never understand why people think I should be content with what I’ve done. I don’t want to be that person that just feels like I’ve peaked. I always come back hungry because there is so much more that I can do. Do men’s careers end after five years? They don’t get criticized for wanting to do more and be better. You don’t tell the men that they have an expiration date on their careers. No woman should have an expiration date.”

Regardless of what’s said about her in a negative sense, Charlotte always has an abundance of praise to heap on her fellow athletes. There are rivalries she would love to revisit or continue, and one immediately came to mind, as well as a few that she hopes to engage in. She knows she is different as a competitor, and so are her counterparts. “I’ve never had a full feud with Naomi. I would love to face her again. I want to do a full program with Shayna Baszler; I admire her and her background. I also think that Bianca and I will need to have a full program at some point. I had a taste of what we could do on Raw, and I would like to go back to that and have a full program. She’s so athletic and powerful, and I need more time with her. Rhea also definitely has unfinished business with me. I would love to share more moments with her. I really want to fight everyone.” She laughed. “I’m a different performer now, and I guess I have unfinished business with everyone.”

Being the competitive athlete that she is, Charlotte has a bit of an aggressive side in her matches. Some people can bring that out more than others. Charlotte had her thoughts about who could provoke that side of the Mad Queen. “I would say, Ronda, right?” The kendo stick and savage beating Ronda Rousey, former UFC fighter turned WWE champion, suffered at the hands of the queen at Survivor Series 2018, came to mind, and I couldn’t help but agree as she continued. “I mean, that’s kinda when they let me turn it on. I’ve always had it in me. When do I get to be that Killer Queen? I love Killer Queen. I also get very aggressive with Asuka.” Sasha was also mentioned as a person who brings out aggression in the queen. “Sasha and I haven’t had a program on TV in five years, but when we cross paths again on TV, I believe it will be what everyone expects and more.”

Returning to SmackDown after a two-year absence was special and exciting for the queen and fans alike. This put Charlotte on a brand where long-time rival Sasha Banks, for the first time in five years, as well as many talents she had yet to have matches or feuds with. We wanted to know what goes into her process of preparing for new opponents. “I watch their matches on Youtube. I asked both Shotzi Blackheart and Toni Storm what their favorite matches were of theirs, and I watched them to study their move sets to try to work around that.” And when incorporating the opponent’s moves, she does admit that being the bad guy helps because she gets to be aggressive. “Like, for instance, if I’m in a program with someone like Shayna Baszler, I’d change my style more for that. Shayna is a tough competitor with a background as a UFC fighter, and I have to up my game when I’m in the ring with her.”

Adding to the style changes, Charlotte has also adapted a few move changes of her own that we needed a little clarity on— What’s the deal with stepping on people so often? “It’s demeaning; it’s one of the most demeaning things you can do to a person. Just those little gestures add so much to the Evil Queen character. I feel like when you step through that curtain, it’s your job to make those people believe what they are supposed to. To elicit those reactions from the audience feels good. That is my job as a performer. The most important thing to me is entertainment when it comes to the fans.”

With Royal Rumble on the horizon, there is much anticipation as it is Charlotte’s third year of participation, and the first time a women’s Champion has been an entrant. “So for Rumble, my top three— Shayna Baszler, Alexa Bliss, and wow, I don’t know—” With a chuckle, I reminded her to pick herself as one of the top three. “Yeah, me,” she added, seemingly still floored at having the chance to compete as a champion. Now that Charlotte has the opportunity to enter the Rumble and possibly win for a second time and choose her opponent for WrestleMania, her goal for main eventing again seems closer than ever.

We have all heard the beautiful reason Charlotte began her journey in wrestling, and over the years, there have been so many triumphs as well as setbacks for her, and one of my burning questions was what keeps her going. Tearfully she provided her motivation. “I constantly surprise myself. That’s really it. Sometimes I drive down the road, and I look at my life, and I’m like, how the hell did I get here? I hadn’t found my purpose or passion yet in my twenties. When my brother passed away, my life changed and put me on the path to where I am today. If I can go this far, how much further can I go?”

Even with everything she has achieved, Charlotte has so much more she still wants to do. “I want another storyline that catches fire, I want to main event Mania, and I want to do an action movie. I feel like I grow into more of myself every year.” Charlotte has also never done an Elimination Chamber match, and the subject of infiltrating the men’s Royal Rumble also came up. “I don’t want to do the Men’s Rumble, but if the opportunity for Elimination Chamber presented itself, definitely.”

Her career started because of dedication to her brother, and he was not able to be a part of her rise to the top, but there are moments she’s dedicated to him. “When I won the Diva’s Title, I feel like that was for him. Now I just think to myself that he would never believe what I’ve become. I’m the most decorated woman in sports-entertainment history, and he never saw a second of it. This was his dream.” Even with success, there are sometimes regrets, but as far as Charlotte is concerned, she has none. “Are there things I would do differently? Yeah, probably, but regrets, no. I’m here now. I’m where I am.”

While I had her on the ropes, we talked about a moment in 2021 that, for me, dispelled the rumors of selfishness and difficulty. Money in the Bank 2021, while Charlotte faced Rhea Ripley, there was a moment where the crowd started to cheer for an opponent that was neither active nor in the match. In my opinion, Rhea appeared to be a bit dejected, but as the veteran, and in one of the most genuine moments, Charlotte saw this and took charge. Flipping off, the crowd seemed to do the job of stopping the chatter, and we, as a crowd, were able to refocus on the match about to begin in front of us.

The match went on to make the top ten matches of the year and also took that same crowd from cheering for someone else to chanting this is awesome where we, once again, saw the tough armor around the queen drop to give us a glimpse of her taking it all in. My question was, where does Charlotte end and Ashley begin in those moments. “I would do it again. I love that girl. I love Rhea. She has grown on me, and I feel like I’ve grown on her. She deserves so much. She is such a great kid, such a hard worker. She has this amazing presence. She picks up things so fast. She is amazing. I believe Rhea and Bianca are the future. They are both incredible talents.”

After such an intriguing talk, it was hard to wrap up, but there was one last question for the queen. While she already has a collection of tattoos, there is usually meaning for each of them. Her fans were buzzing about her new ink on her forearm, the word worthy, and what it meant to her. “I have learned a lot since my debut in 2015. I have grown every year, and a part of that growth is also learning how to deal with the pressure and criticism, whether it’s good or bad. I am so invested in my career and character, but being in the public eye is sometimes challenging. It’s remembering that there is a difference between what people say about the character Charlotte versus the person Ashley. It symbolizes remembering and knowing that and striving to stay true to yourself. It’s also about knowing you’re worthy and believing that every day.”

As always, it was such an amazing experience to dish with the queen and share a few laughs as she headed into her next day of events. After being thanked for sharing her time, she simply responded, “It was my pleasure.”

“There are levels to this.” As Charlotte once expressed in a promo, there definitely are levels. To be the best athlete, the best performer, the best talent, there are levels you must pass. Charlotte Flair is a level all her own. When you think of presence, star power, talent, and hunger, Charlotte is the level most people should aspire to achieve as an athlete. The person behind the character is also top tier as a human being who is compassionate and, above all else, humble.

Ahead of the release of their new Christmas movie Days of our Lives: A Very Salem Christmas, TV Source sat down to chat with Salem’s very own Zach Tinker and Chandler Massey on Zoom about reprising their roles for the standalone spin off movie and pick get their exciting takes. Serving as the narrators of the movie, Massey and Tinker didn’t hold back their excitement to be back on set and dished about their experience and bringing this soon to be holiday classic to life.

Kicking it off Massey, voiced his elation about the opportunity to do not one but two Christmas movies back-to-back. With the first being a Hallmark film, Next Stop Christmas and A Very Salem Christmas, jokingly we asked how it felt to be on the way to being the possible king of Christmas this year. With a chuckle, Massey dove right in. “I don’t know if two Christmas movies makes me king, but it’s great to be on the way. It was really cool to get to do two back-to-back. Gets you into the Christmas spirit.” And when asked if he was ever starstruck or if he sought out acting advice on set, having worked with the likes of legendary soap icon Erika Slezak, Leah Thompson, and Chris Floyd, on Next Stop Christmas, Massey was very candid. “I didn’t really ask any questions. I tried to not bother them. I tried to stay in my professional lane. They were really cool people—legendary actors.” He was able to also confirm that Next Stop Christmas was filmed in Connecticut.

Jumping over to put Zach in the hot seat, after welcoming him back to Salem, we made sure to acknowledge his flawless entry into the role of Sonny Kiriakis. The reception for his portrayal on Days of our Lives: Beyond Salem months earlier garnered a certain amount of excitement to see him once again resume the role in a Very Salem Christmas. When asked about his reaction to the high praise, Zach was more than humble and appreciative of all the love he’s received from fans and cast mates alike. “It feels great. As an actor my confidence is very low and sometimes, I need the praise to feel good about myself as an actor. After Beyond Salem and seeing the response, it felt very good to come back. I’m really glad everyone dug what I did.” Taking more about his understanding the character, he revealed his process. “I didn’t watch Freddy [Smith’s] portrayal, I didn’t want to duplicate anything. As much as what I portray him as, I think I’ve homed in on who he is more. He feels things very intensely, he’s very emotional—sometimes too emotional, and he’s a very empathetic character.”

We did ask if there was anything he’d like to tease about the film and Tinker compared himself and Massey to characters from The Muppets, stating that they were the central characters in the film that set the pace throughout the movie. “It was nice to narrate. It was an interesting reimagine film of Salem, and it was cool to be the one cannon aspect of the film.” Of course, we talked about the colorful commentary when twists were revealed, and the playful banter Will and Sonny shared as more details unfolded. Excitedly, Tinker lit up. “Oh, you guys got to see it? I didn’t know how much I could spoil, but it was fun.”

In a joint question, we inquired about how they felt upon realizing the actual roles their characters would play in the film. Without hesitation, Massey spilled. “Sounds about right. I think it was really clever that they let Will and Sonny kinda craft this story and play around in an alternate universe.”

Tinker agreed, stating that he also enjoyed that aspect before revealing that what he thinks viewers should be most excited about the fact that steaming opens more possibilities. “With streaming you can be steamier and toe the line more. You don’t have to stick to the goody two shoes line on daytime. Anyone who watched Beyond Salem and loved it, I feel will love the Christmas film. It’s very tongue-in-cheek, it doesn’t take itself too seriously.” We added that it was fun and campy, to which Tinker agreed. We also noted that there was a subtle hint of a possible return to Salem for Will and Sonny. Shrugging and doing a few playful hand gestures, Tinker grinned and neither confirmed or denied. “My lips are sealed, but I’m feeling optimistic.” We mused that the next question was if he was open to coming to Salem, and he jumped right in, “yeah, I’m definitely open. That’s a good way to put it.”

Going back to Massey, his career was discussed, from his awards to being on the show for years alongside some of daytimes’ most dynamic talents. When presented with the question of if he feels pressure at this stage to always be on point, Massey was very honest. “I’m very comfortable with sucking from time to time,” he said with a chuckle. “I’ve done over 1,200 episodes of Days and they all can’t be A-game. Sometimes you have no choice but to accept that you’re phoning it in.”

The same question was presented to Tinker who had his own unique response. “I’m very hard on myself. Chandler has a healthier relationship with acting than I do, and if I have a bad day on set that’s all I’m thinking about. It’s hard for me to let it go, but I think that will change with age and maturity. Chandler has been doing this a lot longer than I have and I think as I get older and do more projects it will be easier to let it go. For now, when I mess up it haunts me,” admitting that he considers himself somewhat a perfectionist.

As the conversation shifted back to more playful banter, the guys were asked if they got to keep the wigs worn during their hilarious drag show scenes. Tinker wasted no time providing his answer. “No. Unfortunately not. They would be getting a lot of use; I would be wearing them around the house. I think they’re expensive, so they kept them.”

While Massey laughed in response to Tinker’s excitement over the wigs, he shared the storylines he felt defined his character. “I don’t pitch any stories or anything, but the story of Will coming out and falling in love with Sonny was like the golden age for my character.” Raising his eyebrows, Tinker feigned outrage, to which Massey amended. “And of course, Zach arriving could send us into a platinum age.”

Days of our Lives: A Very Salem Christmas — Pictured: Zach Tinker as Sonny Kiriakis — (Photo by: Evans Vestal Ward/Peacock)

Describing the fear, he held initially upon joining Days, Massey shared that that the end of the week was usually the worst time for him. “I dreaded Fridays. Galen Gering told me that if you’re getting fired, you get fired on a Friday. I really didn’t think I was long for this show, so every Friday I would get nervous. The show has come such a long way and it is so cool to be a part of.”

Tinker gave his own insight into the significance of stepping into a role that means so much to fans and the series, as well as the importance of the LGBTQ+ representation. “I had no idea how much Sonny meant to the viewers. When I was on The Young and the Restless, I got to see the representation [from their LGBT characters] and I saw how much it mattered to the community, and to come here and play the role it feels good to provide that. It’s really important to do it justice and do it well for those people who just need someone to identify with on their screen.”

Wrapping up, we had to mention the hilarious drag show scenes, as they are some of the most memorable parts of the spin offs. We wanted to know what headspace both Tinker and Massey had to get into to make those particular character come alive. Massey’s character is a bit more reserved whereas Tinker’s is more out there but not a very graceful drag queen and Tinker couldn’t help but to agree that he wasn’t the most poised person in heels. “I’d like to say that it’s because I’m such a good actor, but I think it’s because I’m not the most graceful. We just rolled with that aspect.”

Massey, who had been waiting in the wings with his response dove right in, “That’s a good question and as far as getting into the headspace it’s kinda like the clothes make the man. The process of putting everything on and then looking in the mirror it’s like, oh, I feel it now. It’s almost an automatic response.”

With our final question we asked if we could pitch the film to the audience as to why they should tune in. Tinker took the lead, providing his answer first. “You will get to see your favorite characters in a whole new set of circumstances that are unfamiliar to the show and that’s entertaining on its on. And aside from that it’s just a sweet Christmas movie—if you like Christmas movies you would enjoy this. And who the hell doesn’t like Christmas movies?”

Thanking the guys profusely for sitting down with us we shared a few more laughs as our time together came to an end. “We really enjoyed this,” Massey concluded. And much like their onscreen characters appear to be in this installment, Tinker was in agreement.

When you hear the word recast, there is always a certain expectation and often, apprehension about what is to come, especially in a role as iconic as Dr. Taylor Hayes on CBS’ The Bold and the Beautiful. With her beloved predecessor, who originated the role in 1990, Hunter Tylo, declining to come back, the door was open for Days of our Lives alum, Krista Allen to audition and secure the role of the great doctor.

Taylor began her journey as a psychiatrist for the dying Caroline Spencer (Joanna Johnson) and ended up marrying Caroline’s husband after her death. She went on to have three children from the union as well as several hiatuses throughout Tylo’s portrayal. Depicted as a world-renowned psychiatrist, Taylor was introduced to act as a romantic lead for Ridge Forrester. In the beginning Taylor was shown to be an educated, level-headed alternative to Brooke, portrayed by Katherine Kelly Lang. While Brooke schemed and instigated, Taylor took a different approach to her relationship with Ridge Forrester, then-portrayed by Ronn Moss.

Most of her history has revolved around her relationship with love interest Ridge Forrester. Taylor battled Brooke Logan for Ridge’s affections and had many legendary bouts. During Tylo’s tenure, Taylor and Ridge achieved super couple status and became a very popular pairing. While Ridge and Taylor had their ups and downs, most of their dramatic twists were the result of Tylo vacating the role several times over the years. Most memorably Taylor’s two presumed deaths.

Krista Allen’s first scenes as the illustrious Dr. Hayes did not disappoint. Sharing her first scenes with her onscreen daughter, Steffy, portrayed by Jacqueline MacInnes Wood, the missing mother-daughter connection was restored, and Allen shined alongside the two-time Emmy winner, proving why she was in fact, the woman for the job. Effortlessly, Allen floated in, bringing the much-needed breath of fresh air, filling the void of maternal absence in the case of the Forrester siblings.

In addition to looking amazing opposite her TV daughter, Allen had noticeable sparks with Taylor’s former flame, Ridge, now portrayed by Thorsten Kaye. On Friday’s episode, even with the two across the room, fans were set ablaze and took to their social media accounts, praising the chemistry of the once beloved couple. While the excitement was anticipated, the actual scenes outsold.

With Steffy being summoned by Thomas to Forrester Creations, this leaves nothing but time for Taylor to catch up with her ex-husband. Sharing her regrets for all she missed over the years, the birth of her grandchildren, weddings, accidents, Taylor has a real moment with Ridge that instigates light flirtation that left some viewers saying “whoa, Ridge, you’re a married man.”

When Taylor admits to missing her kids, she also has kind sentiments for her ex. “I’ve missed you too, Ridge.” And Ridge also has an emotional response to her, telling her that he’s missed her smile and goes on to say how much he loves her ability to put others first. With genuine smiles present, Ridge and Taylor displayed their close bond, wowing the audience and reviving (possible) faith in a couple we’d long written off. Brooke Logan had better hold on to her pearls and her man.

Krista has yet to share scenes with her onscreen rival, Katherine Kelly Lang, who portrays Brooke Logan, but if the magic we’ve witnessed with her onscreen family is any inclination, the audience should be in for a treat once they romantic rivals come face to face. And one thing I am personally looking forward to is seeing Taylor interact with her new son in law as well as his volatile mother, Shelia, portrayed by Kimberlin Brown. Taylor and Shelia share an intricate history, as Shelia is responsible for one of Taylor’s “deaths.” With that being said, the sheer friction of their interaction should be a joy to watch Allen sink her teeth into.

With Ridge’s marriage in trouble (as it often is) because of Brooke’s former lover and father of her child, and Taylor being back in town, there is sure to be some drama from the old flames. Let the cat fights, husband stealing, and meddling in the affairs of their grown children’s lives begin.

Hunter Tylo will be dearly missed, she really breathed so much life into the character of Taylor Hayes, but we’d be lying if we denied Krista’s contributions thus far. She may be new to the role, but she’s captured the essence of classic Dr. Taylor Hayes, and I for one can’t wait to see more.

The Bold and the Beautiful airs weekdays on CBS. Episodes are also available on Paramount Plus.

It has been widely speculated since the announcement of Disney’s corporate mandated COVID-19 vaccination policy that long running soap opera General Hospital would likely see the exit of several high profile cast members.

On November 2, TV Source learned that Steve Burton was among three stars that would be exiting the series for failure to comply. Although we teased social media that major news was coming, we were not comfortable publishing the story.

Performers in the Screen Actors Guild — the union representing performers that daytime actors belong to — are working under pandemic era terms in their return to work agreement which states “Producers may in their discretion implement policies requiring that current and prospective employees in Zone A (the area where scenes are filmed and the immediate vicinity where the crew works), studio teachers and others who come into close contact with minors be ‘fully vaccinated’ as a condition of employment where permitted by law.” Actors were made aware in August that a mandate to be vaccinated would be implemented for a date of completion by November 1.

While there has been wide speculation about who was going and staying, one of the biggest hits came in the form of none other than viewer’s favorite leather jacket and black t-shirt wearing blue-eyed mob enforcer, Jason Morgan, portrayed by Steve Burton. The Emmy winning actor confirmed he was terminated from General Hospital for refusing to get vaccinated. Burton’s final airdate was Friday, November 19. The show films 3-4 weeks ahead, and the taping took place before the mandate went into effect. In the episode, Jason was seemingly killed after being crushed in a cave collapse in Greece.

Citing medical and religious reasons for opposing the vaccine, Burton took to Instagram and made it clear that he has no desire to obtain the vaccine as a compromise to reprise the role that he has played on and off since 1991. Even after contracting Covid-19 back in August of this year, stating he’d contracted the virus on set, the actor remained firm in his decision to not vaccinate. In an anti-vaccine, “my body my choice”-like speech, he revealed some of the reasons why he was let go from the long-time soap opera.

“I wanted you to hear it from me personally, unfortunately, ‘General Hospital’ has let me go because of the vaccine mandate. I did apply for my medical and religious exemptions, and both of those were denied. Which, you know, hurts. But this is also about personal freedom to me.”

He continued stating that one day if the mandates were lifted, he could return and reprise the role and also thanked his fans saying “when one door closes multiple doors open.” While one of those doors clearly won’t be in Port Charles, the actor seemed very optimistic about his future.

His full statement can be seen below:

Well I know there has been a lot of rumors and speculations about me and General Hospital and I wanted you to hear it from me personally. Unfortunately, General Hospital has let me go because of the vaccine mandate. I did apply for my medical and religious exemptions and both of those were denied, which, you know, hurts. But this is also about personal freedom to me. I don’t think anyone should lose their livelihood over this. But with that being said, you know me. I’ll always be grateful for my time at General Hospital. I love it there. I grew up there. I grew up with some of you, so I will always be grateful and I believe when one door closes multiple doors open. That’s always been my perspective, so I am excited to see what the future brings. And maybe one day when these mandates are lifted, I can return and finish my career as Jason Morgan. That would be an honor. And if not, I am going to take this amazing experience, move forward and be forever grateful. I have got to say that I am forever grateful for your love and your support over the years. It means so much to me. Thank you. I don’t know when my last airdate is. It may have aired or it might be tomorrow or the next day. I am not sure. I want you guys to have an awesome Thanksgiving. I know it is hard, maybe, in this type of situation to be thankful or grateful, but we have so many things to be thankful about. Being grateful really is the key. Love you guys. Thank you.

Steve Burton via Instagram

Burton isn’t the only actor exiting GH. Co-star Ingo Rademacher, who plays Jax Jacks and was at the center of anti-vaccine headlines over the summer, also refused to comply with the vaccine mandate and was terminated. His last episode was November 22. Joining him is Carolyn Hennessy, who plays attorney Diane Miller (Editor’s Note: See Below Update & Correction). There were also over a dozen crew members who failed to comply.

There are several questions in the air as to how General Hospital will handle the exit long term. The character was originally slated to be a major part of the series’ Christmas episodes, which have since been rewritten. Jason Morgan is a pivotal character connected to all major families. Recasting is an option, as the series did in 2014 with Billy Miller, though the storyline was retconned upon Burton’s return in 2017.

It remains to be seen at this time if that’s where the show is headed, but one thing is very clear, Jason Morgan gone from Port Charles, and it wasn’t by plane, it wasn’t by train, it was a needle or lack of one that decided the fate of everyone’s favorite mob enforcer.

UPDATE 11/24/21: CORRECTION: GH star Carolyn Hennessy has commented on reports of her alleged exit. For transparency purposes we will not edit the original article, but will include this correction indicating she has refuted the report.

In the WWE, there has been a trend among women’s wrestling for as long as it has existed, objectification and body shaming. It happens among fans—It happens among “sports writers” even, and inexplicably, it is a thing among coworkers, at times.

With all the negativity surrounding the sport, and the constant attempt to regard women’s wrestling as less than compared to the men, the assumption would be that women in the industry would band together, but this is not always the case. Letting the insecurities you have for yourself be used as satire for your character is one thing, but taking the insecurities someone has for themselves and weaponizing it to assert dominance is something that has been used far too many times. And in the passing years, there has been one particular wrestler with her own crosses to bear, using the body image of others as a negative way to respond to Kayfabe insults.

“I just feel like I appreciate my body more. I go ‘well, you know what? I’ve created a life. This is great, this is great.’ I don’t really care how it looks any more, you know what I mean? If that makes sense? I’ve always had body issues, and I was always self-conscious about showing my stomach off. And now, I’m just real proud of the function of it, of everything it can do. So I don’t know if it’s a mental thing that just turns into a physical thing. If that makes any sense?” – Becky Lynch, (Muscle and Fitness 2021)

Becky Lynch, a self-proclaimed locker room hero, has been known for many things over the years. Her inclusion as being one of the WWE’s own versions of the Four Horsewomen, being the inaugural Smackdown Women’s Champion, her rise to the top as the Man, and no one could ever forget her being one of the first women to main event WrestleMania. Her resume has been impressive thus far, no one can deny that, but with great power comes great responsibility.

As a role model to children, to women, and to some men, there are certain standards that need to be maintained even when the cameras are no longer rolling. Especially when the cameras are no longer rolling. Insults in Kayfabe that attack the opponents’ abilities, their character, and dismantle them mentally and sometimes even physically if things escalate are exciting, they’re expected, but what you do when you log into your social media sometimes leaves more of a lasting impression. And when you use social media as a form of negative reinforcement, it takes on a life of its own.

From body shaming, to injury, and slut shaming, Becky Lynch has taken social media beyond the guise of Kayfabe and feud promotion into bullying and organized targeting of her peers. What’s more disturbing than taking social media feuds too far, it the fact that a woman who has admitted body issues of her own would subject others to the scrutiny she herself was plagued with.

“I post pictures when I think my abs look good and whatever, and I’m standing in a way to where the lighting is whatever— I mean if I move that thing is going to jiggle. That’s why I don’t have my stomach on show. You know what I mean? It doesn’t matter how lean I am, I’m predisposed to being a little doughier.” – Becky Lynch, (Making Their Way to The Ring 2017)

So how does one go from victim to victimizer? It is very unclear where the shift in attitude came from. Possibly the weight of trying to maintain a position on top. It could also be the constant need to outlast her predecessors, but there has clearly been a shift. Or was it already there and because of her lack of popularity it was buried under more important headlines. The lineage of body shaming exhibited by Becky Lynch dates back as far as 2016. This is strange, considering her own interview about body issues only came out in 2017.

While this is one of the first tweets unearthed detailing the particularly unscrupulous behavior of Becky Lynch on social media, it certainly is not the last. In each feud, and sometimes just out of the blue, she hurls below the belt insults that are apparently intended to be satirical but come off as rude and insensitive.

https://twitter.com/BeckyLynchWWE/status/1071138710006185984?s=20
https://twitter.com/BeckyLynchWWE/status/1118660097893437440?s=20

While it is unclear what the motivation is behind the vicious cyber-attacks on her coworkers, one thing became apparent after her latest questionable twitter moment: The fans are not amused. Unlike most of her other “moments of glory” legions of fans were very vocal about Becky’s comments.

While Charlotte Flair is the latest on Becky’s list of people to personally attack on social media, many fans don’t expect her to be the last. If history has shown us anything it is that Becky’s main go to in a feud is a personal comment that has nothing to do with Kayfabe. I find it very intriguing that with all the comments and negativity surrounding the way she conducts feuds that she’s “seen” as a hero.

“… I never use cheap insults to discredit someone, make fun of someone’s appearance, or body-shame. That’s a huge, no, no to me. Even though I am the bad guy, it’s more of, I’m better than you. I never use other things to put others down.” —Charlotte Flair

While there may be more than one definition of what a hero is, there are many examples of how to create a positive Social Media environment, even in the face of a feud. Bianca Belair and Sasha Banks exchanged many blows during their feud and managed to stay on track, as did Rhea/Charlotte/Nikki A.S.H. While it is understood that tensions could run high in feuds and hurtful things could be said, it’s a common occurrence in Becky Lynch feuds. And that is something worth addressing.

“So all I’ll say is the locker room needs a hero sometimes. And sometimes somebody’s gotta be a hero. I’m all right being that hero. That’s what I’ll say on that matter.” —Becky Lynch (Sports Illustrated 2021)

The first episode of the new ABC primetime soap Queens did exactly what a pilot was supposed to do in drawing the audience into the vivid world of the group formerly known as The Nasty Bitches. Starring Eve, Naturi Naughton, Nadine Velazquez and Brandy, Queens follows four women in their 40s who reunite for a chance to recapture their fame and regain the swagger they had in the ‘90s when they were legends in the hip-hop world.

Introducing the women in their past forms and making sure to give a sample of the various roles they played within the group was a good call. I enjoyed seeing where they were back then and flashing to what their lives are now. While the members of the group are diverse, their sound is profoundly cohesive and explosive. We have Professor Sex/Brianna (Eve), a married woman with five kids and a wayward cheating husband that is revealed to have cancer directly after being caught cheating; Da Thrill/ Jill (Naturi Naughton), a repressed church-going Catholic that is revealed to be married but having an affair with a woman; Butter Pecan/Valeria (Nadine), the only member of the group to go on and find fame who is also a bit of a narcissist and eventually loses her job in daytime television, and last but not least, Xplicit Lyrics/Naomi (Brandy), an indie musician who is seemingly on her own to find a sound that suits her as far as her music. She also has an estranged teenage daughter (played by former Days of our Lives star Precious Way)

Upon hearing their song on the radio twenty years after splitting, the members come together at the request of an up-and-coming new artist, Lil Muffin (Pepi Sonuga) to perform for an award show. It is quickly revealed that Jill, Brianna, and Naomi are close, but Valeria believes all the girls are beneath her. It is also revealed that Naomi and Valeria have a rivalry over the attention of their former manager, Eric. Naomi also feels as if Valeria benefited from her talent, Jill and Brianna seem to be stuck in the middle of their two egos. I’m sure their dynamics will get very interesting in the coming episodes, especially because from the looks of it, Eric still has a thing for Naomi and Valeria is harboring feelings for him.

While everything appears to have fallen apart with the performance, after an altercation between Naomi and Valeria, surprisingly, Valeria comes back with her tail between her legs after being fired from her job for spiking her coworker’s drink. Diving into rehearsals with Lil Muffin, the women quickly show that they can still come together to produce incredible tracks. The energy, the flow, the intensity, the reflection of who they are now propelled the rehearsal into an amazing scene that only whetted the appetite for the performances to come.

QUEENS – “1999” – Starring Eve, Naturi Naughton, Nadine Velazquez and Brandy, “Queens” follows a fractured girl group living in the shadows of their once prominent hip-hop dynasty. After their popularity skyrocketed with the success of their chart-topping single, “Nasty Girl,” they were once regarded as one of the greatest girl groups of their generation. Despite critical and commercial success, the group was plagued by internal conflict and jealousy. Estranged and out of touch, the four women, now in their 40s reunite for a chance to recapture their fame and regain the swagger they had in the ‘90s when they were legends in the hip-hop world. The series premiere of “Queens” airs TUESDAY, OCT. 19 (10:00-11:00 p.m. EDT), on ABC. (ABC/Kim Simms) BRANDY, NADINE VELAZQUEZ

While there is an immense number of comedic moments, I loved that there were also hints of female empowerment and support underneath the competitive layers. Most pointedly, there is a scene where Jill is confronted with her own past as a drug abuser when she sees the signs in Lil Muffin that she’s struggling and losing herself in the world of fame. Jill is also very supportive when Lil Muffin has an accidental drug overdose and gets her to help and a hospital. Lil Muffin’s Manager is not pleased and kicks The Nasty Bitches off the card for the performance and tensions run high when Valeria and Naomi confront Jill about her protective nature of Lil Muffin. This leads to Jill’s confession that she is attracted to women and is in love with one. The revelation brings the women closer, and Lil Muffin arrives, letting them know that she refuses to do the show without them. She is grateful for their help and admits to the world onstage that she would not be there without them and ends up giving The Nasty Bitches a feature alone in her time slot at the awards show.

To say they blew it out would be an understatement. With updated lyrics and a mature feel, the women each spit lyrics that would be worthy of any stage. I think I was most pleasantly surprised with the explosiveness of Xplicit Lyrics. Her verses and the way she delivered was amazing, and Jill outing herself in her lyrics was both shocking and exciting at the same time. And after an amazing performance, it was revealed that The Nasty Bitches would be going on tour with Lil Muffin, and I assume the rest of the season will center around their journey.

I am completely drawn in, due to the pilot and am anxiously awaiting the next episode. Bravo, the ladies did an incredible job, and I’m ready to take this ride with Queens.
