Daytime Emmy winner and Lost star Cynthia Watros is joining the cast of ABC’s General Hospital this summer. The soap alum will replace the outgoing Michelle Stafford as fashion publisher and socialite Nina Reeves-Cassadine.

People’s exclusive report on the casting revealed Watros will begin filming in early June. The recast is a result of Stafford departing GH to return to The Young and the Restless as Phyllis Summers. Stafford has played Nina since 2014.

Watros an experienced daytime alum, most notable for her four-year run as the psychotic Annie Duton on CBS’ Guiding Light. The hell raiser would make the lives of Reva (Kim Zimmer) and Josh (Robert Newman) a living nightmare. Her fearless portrayal of the unhinged Annie earned her a Daytime Emmy in 1998, winning for Outstanding Lead Actress. After departing Guiding Light in 1998, she briefly assumed the role of Victoria McKinnon on Another World while Jensen Buchanan was on maternity leave.

In 2005, Cynthia Watros landed her most high-profile role when she joined the cast of ABC’s Lost. From 2005-2006, Watros played psychologist Libby Smith on the hit series.

The actress returned to soaps in the fall of 2013 when she was cast on The Young and the Restless as Kelly Andrews. She vacated the role to Cady McClain the following February due to landing a starring role in the MTV series Finding Carter.

Additional credits include:  Law & Order: Criminal IntentCriminal MindsMen of a Certain AgeIn Plain SightGossip GirlThe Secret Life of the American TeenagerHouse M.D.Grey’s Anatomy and Hawaii Five-O.

The Young and the Restless has tapped a familiar face to replace the outgoing Cynthia Watros as grieving mother and home wrecker, Kelly Andrews. All My Children star and two-time Emmy winner Cady McClain (ex-Dixie) will over the role according to TV Guide Magazine’s Michael Logan.

On Feb. 23, Logan tweeted to a fan, “Unfortunately @watroswatros must exit #YR 4 this MTV thing. Name I’m hearing 4 recast VERY intriguing.” The “MTV thing” he referred to is the series Finding Carter from Emily Silver and Terri Minsky.

Tonight, Logan tweeted, “BREAKING NEWS! @CadyMcClain replaces @watroswatros as Kelly on #YR Deets 2Morrow! It’s DIXIE, baby! @CBSDaytime @YandR_CBS @allmychildren.”

Earlier this month, Y&R sent out a casting call for the role of “Molly,” a character that sounded a lot like Kelly. She was described as a mid-30s to 40 blonde and “has been down a difficult path in life, but is beginning to live again.”

McClain, a 27-year soap veteran, is best known for her role as All My Children’s Dixie Cooney-Martin, which she played off and on since 1988. McClain jumped ship to CBS’ As the World Turns in 2002, taking over the role of Rosanna Cabot.  In 2005, McClain returned to AMC, playing a much darker and jaded Dixie. Her return was short-lived, as then-head writer Megan McTavish killed off the beloved character in 2007 during the ill-received “Satin Slayer” storyline, which saw Dixie murdered after eating poisoned banana pancakes.

Over the next three years, McClain bounced back and forth between AMC and ATWT, reprising Rosanna in six month blocks and appearing on AMC as Dixie in spiritual form. After ABC canceled All My Children in 2011, McClain returned for the remainder of the series, appearing the final four months of episodes.

Last year, the actress signed on for Prospect Park’s online reboot of All My Children. In a blog entry on her website, McClain announced she would reprise her role as Dixie once again. The actress appeared in numerous episodes during the first and only online season. In November, the actress confirmed that production on the online soap would not resume, thus effectively canceling the series.
